Director’s Note
Welcome to the reef!
Marlin, Nemo, & Dory’s adventure–like so many Pixar stories–is layered with so many themes and lessons: courage & growth, friendship and community, familial love–both genetic and found, overcoming fears & adversity, adventure and discovery, identity & independence, tolerance, acceptance, kindness & resilience! As a director, how to pick just one overarching vision from all that great stuff!?
In many ways, the themes in Finding Nemo became an allegory for our production. We built a community–a generous reef teaming with unique individuals and schools of fish friends who gave of their time, energy, talents and creativity. We made new friends, overcame obstacles, stretched our limits, tried new things, and embraced the challenges of ourselves and others–community theater is a marvel!--and through it all, the thread that seemed to weave through it was “Go with the Flow!”
We have a lot of things to worry about up here in our busy air-breathing world, we exist in a constant riptide of challenges to our hearts, minds, and bodies. But Crush’s wisdom resonates with each of us because we’ve all had that moment where we work against ourselves by straining against the current, making waves instead of riding them, battling turbulence instead of rising above it. It’s when we find acceptance in ourselves, in others, in difficult situations, that we are able to calm our minds and hearts and find our way through–and it’s even better when we do it together!
The Big Blue World of Finding Nemo is an alien one to we clumsy land-lubbers. Beautiful, and mesmerizing, but so strange and other worldly–and yet– in these characters, we are still able to find a poignant reflection of ourselves. Perhaps that strangeness makes the glimmers of familiarity that we find in them all the more recognizable and relatable–and easier to appreciate. To those of you who have been a part of this new fishy family we built together, I see you, I appreciate you! Thank you! And to those who’ve just joined us tonight, thank you for coming! We hope you found joy and a little enlightenment along the way!
Keep crushin’ it dudes! Go with the Flow!

Our story
Finding Nemo Kids is a one-act musical adaptation of Disney-Pixar’s Finding Nemo, created for young performers. The story follows Marlin, a clownfish, as he searches for his son, Nemo, who has been captured and taken to an aquarium in Sydney. Along the way, Marlin meets Dory, a forgetful blue tang, who helps him navigate the challenges of the open ocean.
Meanwhile, Nemo finds himself in a fish tank with a group of fish who teach him the importance of courage and teamwork. Together, they form a plan to escape and return Nemo to the ocean. As Marlin and Dory encounter sharks, jellyfish, and sea turtles, they learn the importance of trust and perseverance.
The musical includes several energetic songs that bring the ocean to life, such as “Just Keep Swimming” and “Go With the Flow.” The show is a condensed version of the original film, designed for younger performers and audiences, with a runtime of about 30 minutes.
Finding Nemo Kids highlights themes of family, bravery, and self-reliance, while offering plenty of opportunities for performers to portray various ocean creatures and characters. The production is filled with music, choreography, and fun dialogue, showcasing the talents of the young cast.
This musical is part of Disney’s series of shows specifically tailored for young performers, making it an exciting, engaging, and family-friendly production.
